Sherman Bay Childs
February 25, 1943 - November 25, 2020
Sherman “Bay” Childs was called home on November 25, 2020. He was born on February 25, 1943 in Ratio, Arkansas to the late Alex Childs, Sr., and Lillie B. (Davis) Childs. He confessed hope in Christ at Gumwood Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a faithful member until his health failed him. He attended school in Elaine, Arkansas, and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1965. For 32 years, Sherman worked at Texas Eastern in Helena, Arkansas. He successfully retired and lived his best life, thereafter. He was known to be neat, always on time, and steadfast. Sherman was a very “careful” businessman. He was known to smile and grin before he would tell you, “no”. Sherman was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie B. Childs; his father, Alex Childs, Sr.; and one brother, Man Childs, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memories one brother, Alex Childs, Jr. (Lakeview, AR); two sisters, Emma Childs (Lakeview, AR) and Ethel Childs (Helena-West Helena, AR); a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a very special, special friend, who was the love of his life, Irene Jackson (Helena-West Helena, AR). All of these he loved and touched deeply. “HAVE I NOT COMMANDED THEE? BE STRONG AND OF A GOOD COURAGE; BE NOT AFRAID, NEITHER BE THOU DISMAYED: FOR THE LORD THY GOD IS WITH THEE WHITHERSOEVER THOU GOEST.” Joshua 1:9 Mask is a requirement to enter the facility.
